Man… prison is strange.

You end up grabbing onto any little thing that reminds you there’s still freedom, humanity, compassion… something normal left in the world.

I used to watch sparrows flying around free as hell while all of us were stuck behind fences and concrete.

And those little bastards would sing all the fucking time too.

Didn’t matter how dark the place felt…

they still sang.

Then there were these stray cats that would wander into the weight pit and just hang out with everybody.

And that’s the crazy part…

You’d see every type of person in there.

Killers. Gang members. Big scary tattooed dudes built like tanks.

Then all of a sudden everybody’s feeding the cats, protecting the cats, making sure they got water.

You’d catch hard men go soft for just a second.

And in those moments the heart showed.

Because no matter how rough people acted, everybody in there was starving for some kind of normal human feeling.

Something real.

Something gentle.

Something that didn’t revolve around survival and tension every second of the day.

A sparrow landing on the fence singing like the world wasn’t ending.

A cat sleeping in the weight pit.

Geese walking around the yard like they paid rent there. lol

Sounds stupid… but in a place designed to strip humanity out of people, those little moments felt like a blessing.

So when life starts feeling overwhelming and full of confinement…

remember to breathe like a sparrow,

relax like a cat,

and fucking stand tall like a goose. 😂
